Day 5: Mazan - Mont Ventoux - Triumph over the Giant

Today is “Le Jour J” (D-day): The Giant of Provence awaits you. Mont Ventoux is part of the Tour de France history. It witnessed fierce batlles, in between Eddy Merckx & Poulidor, tragedy with the death of Tom Simpson in 1967. More recently you may remember Froome running the last few meters after a crash with a motorbike (2016). in 2021, Mont Ventoux was climbed twice by the peloton, with Wout Van Aert claiming the victory. Once you’ve conquered the Giant of Provence (21 Km at 7,45 %) one feels a deep sense of self-achievement. During the 2 hours + of efforts, one may meditate, while others may simply think about the non-stop 20 km of downhill that follows.
